Jeff Davis County Schools
COVID-19 Protocols for 2021-22
The Jeff Davis County School District is excited to welcome all students, teachers, families, and visitors back into schools on August 5th for another great school year. Please review the important information below and note that all plans are subject to change to ensure the safety of our students and staff as we continue to monitor local COVID-19 data.
Enhanced cleaning procedures will remain in place in all facilities. In addition, each classroom will be equipped with approved cleaners and hand sanitizer. Ecovasive Spraying will be completed quarterly. Disinfecting fogging protocol will still be in place for all positive cases. All schools will continue to encourage simple but effective mitigation strategies including handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and wiping down high touch surfaces.
Masks will continue to be optional for students, staff, and visitors. JDCSS will provide disposable masks upon request in schools and on buses. Upon positive exposure, quarantine is not necessary as long as both parties are wearing masks during sustained contact.
COVID-19 vaccinations are not required for employees or students.
The Jeff Davis County Health Department, as well as the Jeff Davis County Hospital, has COVID-19 vaccines and appointments readily available.
Individuals with COVID-19
Students/staff who are diagnosed with COVID-19 will be required to follow DPH guidelines. Currently, these guidelines state that individuals must stay home for 5 days from the onset of symptoms. If symptoms have lessened and they have been fever-free for 24 hours they may return to school with a mask for the remainder of the 10 days since onset of symptoms.
For positive cases, individuals will quarantine for 5 days from the start of symptoms or 5 days from the test date for asymptomatic cases, then return and wear a mask for the remaining portion of the 10 days since onset of symptoms or test if asymptomatic. For positive exposures (outside of school) individuals may return after the 5th day since exposure and wear a mask for the remaining days of the 10 since exposure. For positive exposures (at school) individuals may opt to not quarantine and wear a mask for 10 days following exposure. Both of those scenarios are as long as the individual remains symptom-free. Both vaccinated individuals (and boosted if 6 months from the second dose of the vaccination) and individuals who have been positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days do not need to quarantine according to CDC as long as they are asymptomatic.
Assemblies and field trips will resume as normal. Visitors will be permitted at only preannounced activities.
*** Quarantine numbers posted on the system website include both in-school exposure and out-of-school exposures.
