Welcome to the JD Choices Learning Academy (JDCLA),
We would like to thank you for taking the time to look inside our very unique learning environment!
JDCLA is a non-traditional school alternative for students in the Jeff Davis County School System. At JDCLA, we have a dedicated group of teachers and support staff who work together to help every student experience success in school. The JD Choices staff treats every student as an individual and embraces the philosophy that all students do not learn in the same way. As educators, we work with each individual student to help him/her utilize their talents and plan for his/her future. We believe that when challenged in the right environment and provided with the aligned support of school staff and family members, ALL students can be successful.
JD Choices is a small school setting where students receive individualized attention and an opportunity to develop a sense of community. JDCLA is a safe and secure learning environment which accommodates the diverse needs of students. Students at JDCLA are provided an opportunity to overcome academic or social challenges which may have hindered their success in the traditional school setting. At JDCLA, we offer a web-based curriculum using Odysseyware and reinforce instruction with individualized attention. By utilizing this mastery-based instructional approach, students can progress at individual rates and not be held back or pushed forward based on their peers. With this instructional model, academic deficiencies as well as opportunities for acceleration of credits and advanced content are available.
JDCLA is staffed with certified teachers and paraprofessionals at the Elementary, Middle and High School level. We provide two high school sessions with one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Our elementary and middle school students attend a full day program. Additionally, all JDCLA students are eligible to ride school system transportation and are provided breakfast and lunch each day.
