Curriculum and Professional Learning
Curriculum and Instruction
Curriculum is a vital part of every child’s education. It is the basic foundation each child is offered upon entering the doors of Jeff Davis County Schools. Our curriculum is based on Georgia’s state adopted standards. Our teachers use these standards to link learning from one year to the next in students’ educational journey. Very simply put curriculum is the knowledge and skills we expect students to learn.
Instruction is “how” we teach that knowledge to students. We employ a myriad of instructional strategies to teach the curriculum in our schools. We believe in research-based best practices that have been proven to aid students’ retention of information and cause students to think at a deeper level. Teachers are constantly enhancing their tool kit of instructional strategies through professional learning.
Professional Learning is the means by which teachers, administrators, and other staff acquire, enhance, and refine the knowledge, skills, practices, and dispositions necessary to create and support high levels of learning for all students.
Professional learning, now more than ever, is a critical piece in the success of a school system. Through proven methods and collaboration we strive relentlessly to give the students of Jeff Davis County the best possible education.
“The most valuable resource that all teachers have is each other. Without collaboration our growth is limited to our own perspectives.” – Robert John Meehan
